A threefold vision of inclusion differentiates the Downtown Launchpad from others in Houston. The innovation hub was conceived to be: 1) a vertical village with a range of support programs, resources, advisors and meeting space; 2) a place for a startup to  scale, expand and mature all in one high-rise; and 2) a home where all types of Houstonians with all types of business models are embraced.

With two well-established accelerator programs onboard, DRA opened a request for proposals in September 2019 seeking a Downtown property with the capacity to house these accelerators and other similar programs. Within a month, Amegy on Main was selected as the ideal location and construction began on Downtown Launchpad in early December 2019. 

Amegy Bank has a long history of commitment to reinvesting in the local community and is dedicated to serving Texas families and businesses. Through its partnership with The Cannon, Amegy is taking their commitment to Houston to the next level by transforming its Downtown building into an inclusive vertically intergraded mid-rise with space dedicated for incubators, labs, accelerators, coworking, and corporate innovation spaces. The design of the physical space will support startups and entrepreneurs seamlessly navigate through the stages of startup production: everything from idea generation and incorporation through talent development, investment, and scaling. When complete, Amegy on Main will mark an important step forward for the city and establish Downtown Houston as an epicenter of innovation.

The Downtown Launchpad is located in the emerging neighborhood of Southern Downtown. Situated along METRORail, and part of the innovation corridor, Southern Downtown has seen an increase of more than 1,700 new residential units since 2012 as a result of the Downtown Living Initiative, a tax incentive program created by the City of Houston, Downtown Redevelopment Authority (DRA) and Downtown District to encourage new multifamily residential and mixed-use developments in the area. The DRA is also currently developing the new Southern Downtown Park at the 1500 block of Fannin Street, which will be anchored by Tout Suite, a local, fast-casual cafe and bake shop, along with cool public art, dog runs and programming.

The Tower is also within a mile of the George R. Brown Convention Center, Discovery Green, Toyota Center, Minute Maid Park and BBVA Compass Stadium. It also offers immediate access to the METRORail red line and more than 25 local and commuter bus lines from across the Houston region, which are located on the Tower’s adjacent streets, and is diagonally across from a Houston BCycle location. These transit options allow for easy cross-town travel to Historic Market Square Park and other destinations to the south, such as Midtown, Museum District, Rice University, and the Texas Medical Center.

Building amenities include a first-floor lobby area that is a communal, open and energizing atmosphere. It includes meeting rooms, a game room, workstations, a coffee bar and deli and serves as the gathering spot for all the members of The Cannon Tower. This shared meet up space will serve as an important facilitator of serendipitous collisions among tenants who may be on different floors and would otherwise have not been physically connected. Additionally, a new 7 story garage is being constructed providing convenient and secure parking for tenants and their guests.

At the Downtown Launchpad, entrepreneurs will be able to move seamlessly from startup to operations in one place. Companies involved in MassChallenge and gener8tor accelerator programs will have access to a collaborative ground-floor lobby space and a dedicated event space on the 11th floor, plus the proximity of other startups, tech and innovation, which creates an energy unlike any other office environment in the city. The companies can also graduate into coworking space on the 13th floor post-program.
